50 Local Restaurant Review: The big blackboard says it all: 50 Local features the farms, fisheries, dairies and artisan food producers in mid-Maine who bring their fresh food to the kitchen, before it lands at its ultimate destination on the guests’ table. The menu changes just about every day, but start with a few snacks, perhaps the spring rolls with spicy eggplant and kimchi, with a hand-crafted cocktail at the sleek stainless steel bar. Local oysters are a good mid-course, then move on to handmade pappardelle with traditional Bolognese and Pineland Farm sirloin with Swiss chard and demi-glace. A lobster roll or fish ‘n’ chips brings classic sea fare back into the hip, contemporary atmosphere. Dessert can be as simple as a chocolate cake but forgo the milk for The Grown Up Mr. Misty with rum, lime and ginger granita. |
