| Where else but Seattle would you not be surprised to find Baja-inspired food at a waterfront café also offering hourly kayak rentals (available seasonally)? While it's a Northwest-centered hot-spot, the vibrantly painted dining room shouts south-of-the-border, and the spicy food and margaritas bring extra warmth. At lunch, University of Washington students and professors mingle to enjoy cafeteria-style service. A favorite dish is tacos de la casa, three corn tortillas filled with anything from spicy catfish doused in a creamy avocado sauce to yams sautéed with mild chilies and onions. An assortment of tortas (sandwiches) rounds out the menu offerings. For dinner, there's a larger selection, ranging from soups and salads to daily specials such as the Friday tamales filled with shredded pork. Dessert lovers will need to save room for a slice of Key lime pie. |
