Dining room at Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, London, UKEnter into a beautiful room, designed by Patrick Jouin, a soothing, sophisticated space with light wood panels and natural materials in varying shades of tan and cream. Silk green and yellow buttons decorate the walls, the tables are a lesson in luxurious settings, and there's a private dining area for six, set apart with sparkly fiber optic strands. On the menu are some of Alain Ducasse’s signature dishes, with a few British touches designed to seduce London tastes. Executive chef Jocelyn Herland, who comes from Alain Ducasse at Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris, flies the flag for his master very well. Expect the likes of seared foie gras with cherries and green almonds, and a British vegetable and mushroom pot with Montgomery cheddar for starters. The à la carte menu offers four fish and four meat dishes, perhaps simmered halibut with celeriac, shellfish and squid, or Anjou pigeon with artichokes, turnips and a salmis sauce. It’s all expertly cooked, the seasonal and, as much as possible, local, ingredients shining through. Desserts are a high point of the meal: rum baba using a rum of your choice, or a bitter chocolate cup with coffee granita and lightly toasted brioche. This is a place for a special occasion. Prices are high, and have risen (and there are some hefty supplements on the menu), but it is reflected in the quality. The wine list is very good, but it, too, comes at a high price. À la carte lunch with two glasses of wine, mineral water and coffee 3-courses £50; à la carte dinner menu 2 courses £55, 3 courses £78, 4 courses £95, 7-course Tasting Menu £115.
