 This low-key Mexican restaurant with its many intersecting patios is a good place for summer-evening margaritas. Inside, it’s light and airy, brightened with red tablecloths and Mexican hats. Alfonso’s is about finger foods like shrimp cocktail, super nachos and tacos paired with feisty cocktails. The menu includes Americanized standards like carne asada, quesadillas, chile rellenos and various enchiladas, as well as dishes aimed at the well-heeled La Jolla set (lobster burritos, steak fajitas). If serious Mexican cuisine is your goal---look elsewhere, as overall nothing wildly excites our palate.
