Low ceilings, cozy banquettes, nondescript paintings and a well-worn interior make this one of the most colorful spots in town. While the calamari are tender, they don't offer much flavor, are rings only, and the accompanying tomato sauce is pretty ketchup-y. The menu is Americanized Italian---nothing fancy. While the sausage and peppers comes as a big portion with pasta on the side, the sausage, although it has a good texture, lacks any taste of the requisite fennel seed. Veal saltimbocca, however, is exactly as you expect it. For dessert, aim at the ricotta cheesecake, but skip the over-whipped cream cannoli. The wine list is roaring boring, but does have a couple of good values.
