Athens on 4th Ave. Restaurant Review: Athens has been serving authentic Greek food for over twenty years, and it offers a quiet respite from the funky and hip shopping district known as Fourth Avenue. Avgolemono soup is silky and rich, and as tasty as it is restorative. And while many diners enjoy the tiri saganaki accompanied by shouts of “Opa!," we prefer the more sedate roasted red peppers, lightly floured and filled with creamy cheeses, sautéed in olive oil and a balsamic reduction, and arriving to the table with pita on the side. For entrées, you can’t go wrong with the house specialty, namely the lamb braised in tomatoes, onions and spices. Pastitsio is at once light and filling thanks to the béchamel and nicely baked pasta. Athens also offers a full list of other traditional plates as well as grilled meats and succulent seafood. Choose one of the Greek wines for an appropriate pairing.
