| New Orleans offers many unique dining environments, but few boast such a bucolic setting as the Audubon Golf Clubhouse, thanks to its location in the center of an oak grove and across from Audubon Zoo. Serene views of white egrets, lush oak trees, lagoons, and the open, undulating Audubon Park golf course may be enjoyed through windowed double doors or from a table on the wraparound porch. The clubhouse fare is reliably well prepared. Bountiful baskets of shared appetizers and creative salads (try the citrus salmon Caesar) are mainstays, and the tangles of thin, spice-battered onion rings are first-rate. Sandwiches include a fried green tomato BLT. The warm homemade chocolate brownie with pecans is the signature dessert, served with ice cream and chocolate syrup. The limited wine list offers familiar choices by the glass and bottle. Golf-shirt-attired waiters expect guests to linger and graciously refill iced tea glass all afternoon. After dining, try to score one of the rocking chairs on the porch --- a relaxing setting for coffee. |
