Avalon Diner III Restaurant Review: If you’re looking for real down-home diner food, Avalon has it. And while the décor isn’t of the authentic '40s-style of the original in River Oaks, the food is every bit as good. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, regulars belly up to the bar for huge plates of eggs done every way, buttermilk biscuits smothered in sausage gravy and crispy bacon early in the day. Later, they may opt for a big, juicy burger or an even bigger salad for lunch and then a blue-plate special for dinner. Traditional Texas chicken-fried steak is offered on Monday and there’s homemade meatloaf on Saturdays. Be sure and bring your appetite, and don’t pass on the soda fountain treats --- big milkshakes, ice cream floats and even a light and fresh limeade topped with a cherry. |
