Avalon Restaurant Review

: In a destination-dining town such as West Chester with dozens of good restaurants, Avalon distinguishes itself with chef/owner John Brandt-Lee’s attention to detail, commitment to fresh and local ingredients sourced from nearby farms such as Blue Moon Acres and Shellbark Hollow, and his creative take on rustic Italian fare. The restaurant now only permits BYO Sunday through Tuesday, having moved to a much larger location downtown with a full bar and sidewalk dining. The menu remains largely the same, although Brandt-Lee has plans to add wood-fired pizzas. Try a flight of artisanal cheese paired with house-made charcuterie served from the display in the dining room. You can't miss with any of the seasonal vegetable dishes such as the sweet-and-sour roasted vegetables with spicy, smoked mayo. Pastas might include garganelli with shrimp in a lemon-caper sauce or penne with pork sausage and kale in a white balsamic cream sauce. Appealing desserts such as a white chocolate panna cotta are made in-house.
