Bowl Restaurant Review:

There are no plates to be found at Larry Dunning's charming establishment in downtown West Reno across from the Truckee River. With a glass entrance that looks onto the street and an open eating area shared with two neighboring restaurants, Bowl's cozy space creates a sense of community. Don't be deterred by the counter service --- dishes are complex. Have a light start with a snack of popcorn sprinkled with smoked paprika salt. Entrées (yes, served in bowls) span lively island cuisine as with the jerk chicken bowl to a sophisticated swordfish with sunchokes over a miso broth. The favored bowl is a filling duck confit --- crispy skin, tender meat and a bed of creamy, rich polenta, with Swiss chard that gives it color and kick. To end the meal, we recommend the mint ice cream with a warm brownie. If you're curious, go for the chai ice cream with pistachio-coriander sauce.
