Brown Sugar Cafe Restaurant Review:

Despite its name, Brown Sugar Café offers an untraditional blend of heat and sweet, and attracts B.U. students and Allston families alike. Though there's a supplemental Thai-language menu for natives and adventurers, the main menu sticks to getting the usual suspects right, using peppy Southeast Asian spicing and market-fresh ingredients. The fun seafood volcano is filled with chunks of salmon, shrimp, scallops, squid and mussels served in a spicy choo chee sauce with bok choy and other vegetables. We like the pu pad pong garee --- a stir-fried soft shell crab dish with shrimp and curry powder --- as well as the tom khar gai, the ubiquitous chicken-and-coconut milk soup, balanced with lime juice, galangal, chilies and mushrooms. If you need to take a spice break, cool off with lychee juice or a glass of Riesling.
