MilkWood Restaurant Review:

The name MilkWood is a nod to playwright Dylan Thomas (from his play "Under Milk Wood," a 1954 radio drama). The restaurant occupies the basement of Louisville’s award-winning Actors Theatre, and chefs Kevin Ashworth and Edward Lee (610 Magnolia) spice up Southern cuisine with Asian flavors, making it a destination for non-playgoers, too. Paradoxically, hardwood accents and exposed brick make the space both cozy and noisy. Cheerful staff dash from table to table with craft cocktails (listed by categories such as umami or bitter) and trays laden with the fusion fare. Ramen is served with pork belly, shiitakes and country ham. Vietnamese lamb chops are accompanied by sausage. You can even order a side of collard greens and kimchi. If you and a friend can’t decide, make your life simple and order the Big Plate for Two comprising a rack of baby-back ribs in apple cider barbecue with slaw and rolls. Speaking of fusion, try this dessert: bourbon cornbread trifle, incorporating coconut pudding, banana, and chili lime curd. The wine list won't set your mind spinning, but it won't violate your wallet either. Good values from Cahors to California compose it.
