Morello, located in a landmark building with tile arches designed by Spanish architect Rafael Guastavino Jr., features rustic regional Italian cuisine. The soaring space with its dark wood, earth tones and juxtaposition of classic elements and modern accents is an appropriate setting for the food. Choose the lightly fried cauliflower fritti with a lemon aioli sauce as a vegetarian alternative to fried calamari. For those who prefer the squid variety, there is "Rhode Island style" crispy calamari with sliced hot cherry peppers and both marinara and lemon aïoli dipping sauce. Pastas like the orecchiette with broccoli rabe, sweet Italian sausage and red pepper flakes tossed in garlic and white wine make for good main courses. The wine list is extensive and accessible with 650 bottles, including varietals from Italy, France, Spain and the New World. A bottle of the Piedmont Barolo or Tuscan Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet blend pairs well with the rich flavors and textures of the kitchen's heartier fare. Selections are also available by the glass, quartino and mezza.
