THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Paul's Monterey Inn Restaurant Review:

When Paul's Monterey Inn was built, the Northeast Heights was the glamorous eastern edge of Albuquerque and the steakhouse was king among dining establishments. Now the area is showing its age---but Paul’s appeal is timeless. The dining room is dimly lit and filled with deep red leatherette booths, and the prime rib, crab legs and New York strip steaks are still the stuff of red-blooded American indulgence, accompanied, naturally, by giant spuds and simple iceberg salads as well as house-baked bread. You can kick off your meal the way your grandparents did---with a martini---and end it the same way, too: with homey, gooey house-made desserts. These days there are some concessions to modernity---bacon-wrapped shrimp with hazelnuts and brown sugar or pan-fried oysters in chipotle sauce, for instance. But why concede? There are better places for contemporary cuisine, but few places turn out old-school meat and potatoes quite like Paul’s.
