THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Saucebox Restaurant Review:
Saucebox is equal parts restaurant and dance club. DJs play live programs every weekend, but on any weeknight loud house music infuses every corner, and its location bordering the late-night Old Town club district makes it a good stop before, after, or as part of a club tour. Overall, the mood is modern with crisp white furnishings. A glassed-in liquor cabinet shows off the collection of wine and specialty libations, including several house-made infusions. The menu always features a few cocktails of the day, such as a ginger cosmo. Pan-Asian snacks and small plates rarely disappoint, mixing sweet, sour, spicy and salty flavors in appealing, creative ways. Standouts include the grilled octopus in Hunan sauce; a warm Thai salad with cabbage, sesame, rice noodles, carrots and tempura shrimp; spicy Javanese salmon with spinach; and sushi hand rolls. Some dishes acknowledge Northwest ingredients, such as the oysters with apple kimchi or the adobo pork shank with greens and beets. Tapioca dumplings have a thick, chewy exterior that may be an acquired taste. We recommend skipping dessert in favor of a rich cocktail; the potent coco colada, served in a whole coconut, will end your night on a sweet and high note.
