THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bacar Restaurant Review:

Totally renovating an already splashy space, the team from Baraonda saw an opportunity to acquire an upscale authentic Italian restaurant. This is another in Atlanta’s growing line-up of restaurants that try, as far as American tastes will permit, to steer a course close to what makes authentic Italian cooking so memorable. Thus, the risotto is cooked to order (unless you’re planning to attend a performance in which case it might be cooked ahead, so order something else). But when it is cooked to order, the grains of rice come to the table perfectly al dente, as they should be. Zuppa di vongole in bianco is a simple presentation of light broth-bathed, tenderly cooked Manila clams. Venison with juniper demi-glace, an occasional special, is tender and just lightly wild tasting. Cornish hen with Moroccan herbs (really spices) is tender and tasty, but not spicy hot. Salmon carpaccio and spiedini (changing daily) make ideal light appetizers. If the dessert list offers the semifreddo with strawberries and balsamic vinegar, don’t pass it up. This menu will change with the seasons, but you get the taste of it. The wine list has good strength in red Italian wines, but after that it falls off in interest. The American section is singularly weak, and probably would best be deleted, if not restructured.
