Bakery Bar Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: This compact, softly-lit cake-and-cocktails spot just on the edge of the Garden District is the brainchild of owners Charlotte McGehee and Charles Mary IV. Previously, they featured their delectable cakes in a pop-up called Debbie Does Doberge.

Likes: Highly entertaining bartenders.
Dislikes: Cakes don’t seem as fresh as they could be.

Food & Drinks: If you’ve not heard of doberge cake, chances are you haven’t spent much time in New Orleans. It’s a local creation that features six layers of butter cake, usually chocolate or lemon, but at Bakery Bar you may find selections ranging from wedding cake to salted caramel, cookies and cream and even a red velvet. If cake doesn’t go well with your ice cold martini, consider a cheese board, but be prepared for slightly skimpy portions. Bigger appetites may be satisfied with a respectable burger or shrimp and grits. Considering the collection of books and board games available, it seems the owners are encouraging guests to linger.
