Ban Thai Restaurant Review: When locals who have visited Thailand seek a remembrance of their adventures, they come to Ban Thai for dinner. Although the place is little more than a pink-painted shell with tables, its home-style food captures the essence of the playful Thai esthetic. The flavors of galangal and coconut milk in the chicken soup called kai tom kha play tart and sweet on the tongue. And the licorice undertones of holy basil spring to life when matched with hot chilies in the chicken ka prow. The beef larb in its kicky fresh lime juice dressing packs a powerful wallop, while basics like pad thai and panang curry are better than good. Heat lovers will want to request the four-part condiment tray for an arsenal that ranges from tingly to incendiary. The kitchen is happy to vary dishes to suit customers’ dietary needs, and provides a generous assortment of choices for vegetarians. |
