Barrelhouse 101 Restaurant Review: There are places for eating and places for drinking. On a good day, this is a place for both. Polished-wood tones define the interior of the casual spot. Crisp salads, Angus burgers and pasta dishes are reliable and well-executed. But this is pub food, so sandwiches like the shrimp po’ boy, a variety of tacos, mac ‘n’ cheese skillets, and seven iterations of wings dominate. The service and atmosphere are more bar-caliber than restaurant, but attractive presentations reveal that there is more to Barrelhouse than beer and basics. There are 101 brews available, in reference to the name and the state highway, not to mention an impressive selection of tequila and American whiskies. A giant chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla whipped cream is the star of the dessert menu. Expect a crowd around happy hour and on weekends.
