THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Baum Vivant Restaurant Review:

Baum Vivant reigns as one of Pittsburgh's top restaurants. Despite a nondescript exterior and an unglamorous location, this bijou eatery attracts a zealous following of regulars plus special occasion couples. The interior substitutes high style (hot pink swirl wall covering, chocolate suede upholstery) for the original burgundy, gilt and mirror design. But low lighting and the intimate space project a romantic, upscale ambience. Charismatic chef-owner Toni Pais exudes warm hospitality. The kitchen reflects his passion for fresh, high-quality ingredients and unusual products. A seasonal menu showcases creative twists on Portugal-born Pais' native cuisine, as well as contemporary updates of classic French, Northern Italian and American dishes. Seafood abounds, including the signature mariscada (shellfish stew). Try the fresh sardine filets with white beans, greens and caramelized onions; or pan-seared grouper filet with caramelized fennel, onions, candied lemon zest and argana oil. Perfect salads mix baby greens with designer sprouts. All breads and desserts are house-made. The wine list offers interesting Portuguese selections.
