THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bazi Restaurant Review

: Nestled at the historic Marlin Hotel in the heart of South Beach, Bazi is a venture from Michael Pirolo (Striped Bass in Philly, Scarpetta in NYC and Miami) and partner Jen Chaefsky. It’s an amalgamation of favored Asian flavors brought together in a multitude of dishes utilizing local ingredients wherever possible. Case in point: whole crispy snapper of the day, which is hauled from Islamorada every morning, deboned and fried. Equally as exciting is the Cantonese-style Florida shrimp with ginger, chives and Shaoxing wine. Among the exotics are more familiar dishes such as scallion pancakes, baby bok choy salad, pork belly gyoza, grass-fed beef short rib buns, edamame dumplings, chow fun, fried rice, and whole farm-raised Peking duck served three ways. But even these have been creatively twisted and turned in some way to make them seem new and vibrant. Enjoy the afterlife (code for dessert) by indulging in pandan rice pudding with fried banana, candied cashew and lemongrass caramel. Pirolo and Chaefsky are also the duo behind Alton Road’s Macchialina.
