Big Tex Cantina is a lively, family kind of place, especially on weekends. Texas iconography is everywhere: a set of longhorns hangs over the bar; a stuffed and mounted turkey resides on one wall. Texas is also evoked on the menu, with its brisket-filled tacos and chicken-fried steak. The latter, available as a sandwich and as a main plate, is crisp and juicy, although we’d rather see the former in an open-face version, with some of the lovely pepper-flecked cream gravy. Sides include rich, flavorful roasted creamed corn. Vegetarian-friendly dishes, such as the mashed potatoes and gravy, abound. For brunch, get the corned beef brisket hash. Red velvet cheesecake is among desserts. Have a beer, of course, choosing from a long list. Yuengling lager on draught for $4 a pint is a bargain.
