THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Biga Bakery Restaurant Review

: Thick-crusted boules and rustic baguettes line the wooden shelves. A few Cuban items have found their way to the display cases in recent years as well, since mastermind Madeline Lowe sold the business to a Latin American chain. Classical music soothes the a.m. coffee crowd. Elegant rustic tartlets and tortes are piled onto tiered iron pedestals. The deep, dark, chocolate-glazed pound cake is dense and rich as a brownie. Naturally leavened sourdoughs and organic grain loaves are unique and nutty. The ciabatta is chewy and wholesome. Custom-designed Italianesque panini are created with Biga’s signature breads. Sandwiches and desserts fly out of this tiny place all afternoon in Biga brown paper bags, as busy go-getters grab their goods on the run. The garlicky focaccia sandwich with chevre and grilled eggplant is a stunner. The Biga lunch bag, including a gourmet sandwich, a pastry and a beverage for under $7, is an enticing deal by any standard.
