Bistro Laurent Restaurant Review: Bistro Laurent has brought classic French cuisine to downtown Paso Robles since 1997, long before the city became a foodie destination. Chef/owner Laurent Grangien wields his expertise with a deft touch, highlighting fresh, seasonal ingredients against a backdrop of authentic French technique. It’s always hard to pass up the onion soup, but other possibilities have included crispy Dungeness risotto, beef tenderloin with black peppercorn sauce, and a raspberry clafoutis topped with house-made vanilla ice cream. The four- and five-course tasting menus offer another option, especially with the spot-on wine pairings developed by sommelier Ian Adamo, who also oversees a good wine-by-the-glass program that changes frequently. Not surprisingly, the extensive bottle list celebrates both local and international labels, and everything on it and more can be found in Bistro Laurent’s wine shop next door.
