 French-born chef/owner Laurent Grangien made a big impression in what was fledgling wine country when he first opened this quietly elegant restaurant, and he’s still helping to raise the bar for the area’s food scene. Classic dishes range from French onion soup to a smoked salmon tart with crème fraîche, and rack of lamb with ratatouille. More adventuresome diners can opt for mussels gratin, crispy sweetbreads with risotto, or the nightly three- or four-course tasting menus. For dessert, we suggest the seasonal house-made sorbets or warm chocolate tart drizzled with just-sweet-enough vanilla sauce. Not surprisingly, the extensive wine list celebrates both local and international labels, with many available by the glass, and everything on the list and more can be found in Bistro Laurent’s wine shop next door.
