Blackbird Pizza Restaurant Review:

Blackbird took over Vincente's space, continuing a longstanding pizza tradition on this busy corner. It still looks like a traditional pizza parlor: large and dark, and with booths you can sink into. But the pies are new and inventive. Don't expect Spartan gourmet versions with charred crusts and a stingy streak of tomato sauce. You will find a crust of moderate crispiness, homemade mozzarella, and creative toppings such as roasted shrimp, artichoke hearts, arugula, lamb sausage, pickled peppers, green olives and even broccoli. The "everything bagel" pizza is finished with goat cheese, red onion, tomato, capers and nova lox. A vegan number includes cashew cream, Daiya vegan "cheese", mushrooms, onions, green olives, artichokes, basil and arugula. If none of these combos appeal, it's easy to create your own. The gluten-free crust option is surprisingly good. A small pizza will feed one hungry person, while the large ones are big enough to share. Salads, sandwiches and pasta round out the menu. Drinks come in mason jars and are satisfyingly strong.
