| Viewed roadside, The Blue Bottle Café is a small, unprepossessing BYO, but inside one will find an attractive and comfortable dining space. It’s a husband and wife collaboration with Aaron Philipson in the kitchen and wife Rory tending the front. A staff of earnest young servers takes good care of the wine that diners bring with them. Seasons inspire the changing bill of fare that may offer dishes such as crab cake with black bean relish and chipotle aïoli or Gorgonzola-and-leek tart with apple wood-smoked bacon. Salads are symphonies---elaborate compositions with varied but harmonious elements exemplified in a version named for the restaurant: a bright mix of baby greens with sliced red grapes and toasted hazelnuts, dressed with red wine-and-honey vinaigrette and topped with shaved Manchego cheese. |
