| Preppy Arlington might seem an unlikely location for such sticky-fingers fare as Carolina-style barbecue. But Blue Ribbon Bar-B-Q---an offshoot of the West Newton original---beats the odds. Inside the shiny storefront, chalkboard menus list all the down-and-dirty faves. They're both cheap and authentic, and rarin’ to go---or to be gnawed on the spot at the stool-lined counter. Pulled pork is the house specialty, all vinegary goodness. Ribs can be sucked off the bone, and sandwiches come on bulky rolls, perfect for soaking up the spicy homemade sauces. Furthermore, in the tradition of Deep South roadside stands, sides are nearly enough to make a meal in themselves: lush mac 'n' cheese, collard greens, baked beans, crunchy slaw. For dessert...what else? Pecan, sweet potato or Key lime pie. |
