| Bombay Bar & Grill has successfully transformed the stereotypical Indian dining experience into one with modern appeal. Until now, most Indian restaurants in Sacramento were characterized by cheap buffets and lackluster dining rooms. Bombay shatters that image with walls swathed in turquoise, vermillion and aubergine; opulent upholstered seating; and contemporary pendant lamps. An expansive stone-topped bar takes up most of the space, framed by backlit, mosaic-tiled alcoves. But it’s not just the front of the house that impresses; the kitchen turns out consistently high-quality dishes, from the traditional to the innovative. Starters include the usual samosas and pakoras, as well as Indian-spiced barbecued chicken wings and delicate Nepalese momos---steamed vegetable dumplings. Entrées follow suit, and include staples such as the well-spiced, indulgent chicken makhani, vegetable korma and lamb vindaloo. More inventive dishes include olive oil-marinated salmon in a clay pot, garlic-basil rack of lamb roasted over charcoal, and Tibetan-style noodles pan-fried with chicken. Desserts are as carefully crafted, such as the kulfi--- ice cream made in-house with saffron and tidbits of pistachio. |
