| At this distinctly European café, sidewalk tables are packed with Cole Valley locals and topped with steaming bowls of café au lait and flaky French pastries. Inside, the airy dining room boasts huge ceilings, tons of windows and a vaguely rural feel. Pains au chocolat oozing dark chocolate from the edges, golden madeleines, canneles and cakes topped with seasonal fruits lure the sweet tooth to order dessert. Rounding out the light meals that are available until 7 p.m. are croques monsieur, simple but satisfying ham-and-butter baguettes, hearty salads, and many varieties of open-face tartines. |
