THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bradley's Fine Diner Restaurant Review:
Bradley Ogden brings his upscale diner concept to Menlo Park, an area long on affluence but short on fine dining. Décor is clean, bright and interestingly accented, as with the wall centerpiece of heavy chefs’ knives and cleavers embedded in a large piece of wood. Menus change frequently: one night we tried chicken and dumplings, and another arctic char, served in a bowl atop potato chowder and accented with bacon. Offerings focus less on "diner" food than on California contemporary, although Ogden’s "Yankee pot roast" of short ribs shredded in a bowl over crème fraîche-whipped potatoes and Brussels sprouts gets close to diner-like. The wine list, save for sparkling, is entirely Californian, and requisite hand-crafted and sometimes barrel-aged cocktails make an appearance. Of these, the spiced Old Fashioned is our favorite, with the promised spice and the sweetness of pear liquor. Desserts lean towards seasonal American classics including a signature butterscotch pudding.
