Brauhaus Schmitz Restaurant Review: German flavor prevails at Brauhaus Schmitz, a restaurant and beer hall with at least 20 brews on tap and another 85 in bottles. Bavarian-style snacks to pair with beer include rollmops (pickled herring) with rye bread and sour cream and an array of wursts. Bavarian beers are a good accompaniment to both the traditional and New German cuisine from chef Jeremy Nolen, who goes beyond the usual sauerkraut dumplings, wursts and schnitzels with dishes such as grilled quail wrapped in bacon and buckwheat spätzle. We also like the old-school German pretzels and mustard. Brunch is offered, too, with sourdough pancake specials along with house-made muesli and endless wursts. |
