At the Bristol, as locals call it, the menu offers a range of fare from a spicy Thai chicken stir-fry to linguine fresco and a burger served on an English muffin with skillet fried potatoes. Pork Dijonnaise (grilled pork loin with Dijon mustard sauce), a charbroiled New York strip steak with Henry Bain sauce, and filet Mandarin (with a soy, honey, garlic, ginger and Mandarin orange liqueur marinade) are among the longstanding offerings dubbed “Bristol Classics.” There are several vegetarian choices, too. For dessert, there’s Derby Pie and cranberry bread pudding. The wine list focuses on good value selections while offering some surprising depth in such genres as Madeira. This comfortable restaurant in the middle of a cast iron-fronted block of historic Main Street is popular with the before-theatre dining crowd, so plan accordingly. A cozy brick courtyard provides unusually quiet urban dining when the weather is good. Other locations.
