| Christina and John Gagne made a hot dog reputation for themselves at their now-closed Spiced Dog near Decatur. But this lively pub is their own joint, and the food quality puts many spiffier establishments purely to shame. John still makes the bratwurst and andouille sausage, using natural casings. Sourced from a good purveyor, the hot dogs are the familiar jumbo franks topped with chili and everything one’s taste buds could desire. There’s even a veggie dog. Other dishes include buffalo shrimp and a raft of quesadillas, wraps, soups and salads for which dressings are made in-house. Beers by the bucketful are the quaff to target. Desserts also are made in-house; try the walnut cake, a large, moist slice loaded with walnuts and accompanied by two mounds of soft whipped cream studded with walnuts. On Wednesdays, Brockett showcases gourmet three-course meals. Dinner specials once a month could include all-you-can-eat crab legs for $20. |
