Broder Restaurant Review

: Breakfast is the star at this Nordic-inspired eatery. Probably the most popular item is the aebleskivers, a Danish treat consisting of small cake-like balls served with lemon curd and lingonberry jam. Another choice is the “Breakfast Bord” featuring rye crisp, lingonberries, gravlax, salami, yogurt, hard cheese, a grapefruit half, and a sweet. Other breakfast options include egg scrambles and Swedish hash. Breakfast is served all day, but lunch offers a changing trio of Danish open-face sandwiches, a burger and plenty of seafood, including oysters and house-cured gravlax. Try the lefse: a Norwegian potato crêpe filled with roast beef, smoked Gouda and caramelized onions. Vegetables are few and far between; as an alternative, the Brussels sprouts, bacon and chèvre salad, plus the beet salad, are appetizing choices. The small wine and beer list is largely European while the most interesting offering is the Scandinavian aquavit, served straight or incorporated into imaginative cocktails. The limited size of the restaurant and the popularity of breakfast often results in a long wait, but you may linger in the Savoy Tavern next door or sip complimentary coffee. Broder Nord is located at 2240 North Interstate Ave., Ste. 160, 503-282-5555.
