This is a true bistro with checked tablecloths and photos of local characters on the walls, serving the residents of Buena Vista just north of the Design District. Run by Claude Postel (formerly a restaurant chef-owner in Quebec), this eatery is a hangout where one can drop by any time for tasty, traditional cheap eats and a glass of honest wine. The blackboard-only menu changes daily, depending on what the chef finds at the market that morning. But one must-have is rillettes du Mans, a rustic pork pâté/spread. Other standouts include caprese salad drizzled in basil sauce, zingy scallops Provençal, and grouper with textbook beurre blanc, and hand-cut house frites. The chef comes from a family of French pâtissiers, so this is not a place to skip dessert. Try the apple tart with vanilla ice cream.
