The Bungalow’s décor indeed resembles a seaside dwelling’s Craftsman-style architectural and romantic touches: red velvet banquettes, intimate lighting and cozy wood booths. Entering from the front, you rather alarmingly hit the lively bar scene. But if you valet park around back, you’ll walk up through a white-rose-scented wood-and-stone garden and up a few steps before you enter the lower or upper dining rooms. Start with a dirty martini and the jumbo shrimp cocktail, which shows up on a silver-and-glass bowl with fresh horseradish and Bombay gin-laced cocktail sauce. The grilled wild king salmon sounds and looks rather ordinary, but not when eaten with tangy orange-tarragon and sorrel beurre blanc sauces. The all-Prime steaks are tender and juicy, especially the petit filet, which can be paired (for a price) with an Australian lobster tail, king crab legs or a garlicky shrimp scampi. At meal’s end, ask for the bananas Foster special. On Sunday evenings, the three-course prix-fixe meal is a good value.
