| Everything in this restaurant is influenced by the bold artwork of the master painter Matisse, from the décor to the dining. The seasonal grazing menu---which is the only menu---starts at $60 for three courses and goes to $75 for four and $95 for five. Offerings have included a peppered sliced beef BLT with apple wood-smoked bacon, heirloom tomato and their jus, red onion balsamic jam, Maytag blue cheese vinaigrette and herbal crostini; and smoked duck carpaccio topped with Brie foam. Count on subtle seasoning from chef-owner Peter Loria. The restaurant does not have a liquor license but there’s a wine shop stocked with selections friendly to the café’s menu. Desserts, also seasonal, may offer such surprises as rum butter-soaked angel cake with white chocolate and coconut mousse or chocolate chip bread pudding with bourbon creme anglaise. Dining in spring, summer and early fall is especially nice when the restaurant’s lovely little garden can be viewed through floor-to-ceiling windows. |
