Cafe Tandoor Restaurant Review: Tandoori dishes are front and center at this Cleveland Heights Northern Indian café. Diners might start with the vegetable samosas that come with a trio of sauces, or the papadams, which are chips made from lentil flour that can be roasted or deep-fried. (We prefer the fried iteration.) The traditional, pre-dinner bread is especially good; choose the paratha lachhedar (multi-layered bread brushed with butter), pishori nan (cashew-and-pistachio-crusted naan) or any of the half-dozen other varieties, complementing them with some of the sweet mango chutney. Main courses like butter chicken are rendered all the more appealing by the addition of delicately flavored saffron rice. Expect a vast menu of vegetarian dishes, including baigan bharta (tandoori roasted eggplant with tomatoes, onions and peas) as well as dal maharani (creamed lentils seasoned with aromatic ginger, garlic and onions). A brief menu of desserts features homemade ice cream as well as a rice pudding with raisins and almonds. A serviceable wine list and full bar are available.
