THIS RESTAURANT IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED Cafe Ventana Restaurant Review:

This ambitious kitchen turns out three meals a day, plus snacks and a late-night menu. The order-at-the-counter lunch tends to be busy, but not chaotically so. Though the short menu doesn’t break much new ground, items frequently riff on a familiar dish, like the Cuban sandwich served as a wrap. The restaurant promotes itself as a New Orleans bistro, and it has the beignets to back up the claim. Along with first-rate coffee, Café Ventana also offers wine, beer and signature cocktails so good they’re a draw on their own. Cakes, pies, chocolates and pastries are available, but it’s hard to bypass those beignets. The café is on the small side, but the annex next door lets more Saint Louis University students spread out their books and study, more telecommuters hook up their laptops, and more moms park strollers for a leisurely klatsch.
