In the south suburbs, Caffè Giovanni caters classic Italian dishes at reasonable prices.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Caffe Giovanni Restaurant Review:
Fans of chef John Vennare have followed him from Shadyside to the South Side and now to this small, casual restaurant in the south suburb of Mt. Lebanon. Their reward is the straightforward, simply prepared and reasonably priced classic Italian dishes they crave---fresh pasta, seafood, veal and chicken. House favorites include: rotolini di melanzane (rolled stuffed eggplant); funghi alla griglia (marinated, grilled portobello mushroom); pollo di limone (boned chicken breast with lemon butter, shallots, capers and mushrooms); and spaghettini con salsiccia (thin spaghetti topped with crumbled house-made sweet sausage). Be aware that the room's hard surfaces, from floor to ceiling, often escalate conversations to a high noise level.
