California Market Restaurant Review: California Market's coveted patio seats overlook Big Sur’s coast, where pine- and redwood-covered hillsides descend toward waves crashing onto rocky shores. You can start the day with a Point Lobos omelet, featuring avocado and Dungeness crab, or smoked salmon on a bagel. At lunch, let the ocean be your muse; on our visit, we began with clam chowder that was creamy, flavorful and full of tender meat. We nibbled crispy crab and lobster rolls plated with a bold sweet-and-sour wakame seaweed salad. A juicy swordfish sandwich, one of several sandwiches on the menu, arrived with piping hot french fries. An assortment of entrée-size salads includes chicken, ahi and Caesar options. For a real splurge, try the cioppino. Save room for the chocolate mousse cake that almost --- but just almost --- rivals the view. Note: Starting January 15, 2016, California Market will be the dinner spot at Hyatt Carmel Highlands as Pacific's Edge closes for renovation.
