THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant Review

: CPK revolutionized pizza when it opened its doors back in the 1980s and served pies like the B.L.T., complete with mayo, and the barbecued chicken, both of which helped spawn a food craze. While CPK still considers pizza its calling card --- after all, they have more than two-dozen wafer-thin pizzas --- they’ve stepped out of their comfort zone to offer an array of small plates, creative salads, sandwiches and, yes, even tacos. The crispy mac ‘n’ cheese features four bite-size noodle patties covered in panko, lightly fried, and then tossed in a creamy cheese sauce --- a nice meal for one. The asparagus and arugula salad is equally satisfying for a singleton and is presented with a display of sun-dried tomatoes, shaved Parmesan and a light drizzle of lemon vinaigrette. An array of sandwiches, including a classic club, seem to complement the menu, but the carnitas and fish tacos throw us for a loop and seem better left to the corner taqueria. While the wine list won’t win any awards, the four-ounce pours have us raising our glass, and, when paired with one of the small plates, we have no reason to pass on one of the desserts.
