Charlie Gitto's on the Hill Restaurant Review

: Charlie Gitto's has long been a sports celebrity hangout---after all, it’s in the neighborhood where Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola grew up. Old favorites like veal Nunzio, topped with crab meat and a lemon-butter sauce, show up alongside contemporary dishes like three-pepper seafood fettuccine. A strong connection to first-rate steaks is vital, and a good wine list, strong on brawny Italian varieties and developed by in-house, certified sommeliers, makes the evening even more pleasant. Some of the waiters have been there since Garagiola was, well, broadcasting, if not playing. The Hill lays claim to the original Charlie Gitto’s, but suburbanites now may enjoy classics like chicken spiedini and toasted ravioli without driving quite so far at Charlie Gitto’s From the Hill.

Charlie Gitto's on the Hill was superb!

My wife and I came to St. Louis knowing little about the city or its eateries. The concierge at the Ritz-Carlton, where we were staying, gave us a list of recommended restaurants. I always take a hotel's recommendation with a grain of salt, however, on this Sunday evening we had made no plans for dinner and just picked from the list we were given. What a fortuitous choice that was. From the moment we entered, we were treated with personal and attentive service. Our meals were spectacular; they were done to our individual requirements, were served hot and promptly, though never rushed. We would both recommend that anyone looking for delicious and authentic Italian cuisine, served in a pleasing and professional way, take the opportunity to eat at Charlie Gitto's on the Hill.
