| Charlie Gitto's has long been a sports celebrity hangout---after all, it’s in the neighborhood where Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola grew up. Old favorites like veal Nunzio, topped with crab meat and a lemon-butter sauce, show up alongside contemporary dishes like three-pepper seafood fettuccine. A strong connection to first-rate steaks is vital, and a good wine list, strong on brawny Italian varieties and developed by in-house, certified sommeliers, makes the evening even more pleasant. Some of the waiters have been there since Garagiola was, well, broadcasting, if not playing. The Hill lays claim to the original Charlie Gitto’s, but suburbanites now may enjoy classics like chicken spiedini and toasted ravioli without driving quite so far at Charlie Gitto’s From the Hill. |
