THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Compadres Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:
Compadres is a rarity---a restaurant chain that started in Hawaii and now has branches strategically dotted around Northern California (and an outpost on Maui). It’s the brainchild of Dick Bradley, who came up with the Victoria Station chain in the '70s and left before it lapsed into mediocrity and bankruptcy. This is an upbeat, fun cantina with more accent on the fun and drinks (they do a land-office business in margaritas and tequila shooters) than on the food which is a rather uniformly bland version of Mexican fare with a California accent. It's bright, airy and dotted with ceiling fans, Mexican and Hawaiian gewgaws and exotic birds. If you're fussy about your Mexican food, you'd be better off dining somewhere else and focusing here on the fun. While you can have almost any standard item from burritos to chimichangas---Compadres is essentially a hangout for all ages.
