| D.Z. (as in owners Debbie and Zvika) Akins is an authentic old-school deli with a redolent bakery and fountain menu of shakes and malts. The pace is fast, the classics are represented (chopped liver, matzoh ball soup, knishes, kreplach, corned beef on rye...and don't forget the vat of pickles on every table) and the portions are huge. Prepare for a wait, for the place is usually packed. It's an ideal spot for families; the atmosphere is casual and the volume is high. There are over 100 choices on the menu, mostly soups, salads and sandwiches, but also meatloaf and open-faced roast beef with mashed potatoes. The adjoining bakery is culinary eye candy; choose between rugelach, cream puffs, black and white cookies, strudels and much, much more. Bring an appetite and enjoy both the food and the loyal, seasoned waitstaff. |
