D.Z. Akins Restaurant Review: D.Z., as in owners Debbie and Zvika Akins, is an authentic old-school deli with a bakery and fountain menu of shakes and malts. The pace is fast, the classics are represented (chopped liver, matzoh ball soup, knishes, corned beef on rye --- and don't forget the vat of pickles on every table), and the portions are huge. The expansive menu presents mostly soups, salads and sandwiches, but also meatloaf and mashed potatoes. There’s even a soup lovers' list and the restaurant alerts its dedicated following online about the daily offering. The adjoining bakery is culinary eye candy; choose between rugelach, cream puffs, black and white cookies, cheesecake, strudels and more. Bring an appetite; enjoy both the food and the seasoned waitstaff; and prepare for a wait, as the place is usually packed. |
