| At Delarosa, yet another stylish and hip restaurant from the same people responsible for San Francisco’s Beretta, a table for two can only be found at a table that actually seats approximately 20. The entire restaurant is outfitted with communal dining tables, but low stools do give diners some distance from strangers. The idea suits the restaurant well since so much of its menu, if not all of it, is best shared. Items for splitting include a “chip and dip” dish that features a chickpea purée and triangular-shaped pecorino chips. Fried Brussels sprouts served with caper aïoli also share well and will please even those who still have a childhood fear of the vegetable. The wood-fired pizzas can be hit or miss. Picks such as the fennel sausage, tomato and scamorza cheese are nicely balanced, but the hot salami with coppa is a touch too heavy with the meat. For dessert, sweet coppas dominate the menu. Similar to a parfait, gelato is layered with a range of ingredients. The coppa mela, for instance, layers apple pie, crème anglaise and spiced caramel sauce with vanilla gelato. The cherry on top, so to speak, is the optional splash of bourbon. An impressive beer menu offers brews from all over the world. |
