A family-owned establishment with locations in Newhall and Moorpark, this Yucatan-inspired eatery has a long bar with tall wooden stools adjoining the dining room. There are also stained-glass depictions of what look like Mayan pyramids. Big booths are dressed in tan-and-green striped fabric, while metal lanterns and an iron candelabra hang from the ceiling. On the covered patio, oversize tables and chairs are comfortably spaced. The cooking style hails from the family’s native Yucatan Peninsula. Spicy salsa comes with house-made tortilla chips; an intense mole sauce blankets a chicken enchilada. Seared ahi shows up on a salad, as does a salmon filet. Enchiladas del mar are stuffed with crab, shrimp and fish then topped with a chipotle cream sauce. New York and skirt steaks, marinated, grilled and served with beans, are very reasonably priced. For dessert, don’t miss the flan Yucateco, made in-house and topped with caramel sauce. Margaritas are mixed with premium tequila. Live Mexican music keeps things revving on weekends.
