Douro Restaurant Review: Douro’s Portuguese and Mediterranean menu features subtly different takes on tapas standards, as in the chicken falafel with tahini, which uses elements of Middle Eastern and African flavors. Garlic shrimp with lemon in a piri shrimp broth and the flash-fried calamari with "piri-naise" recall the classic tastes of Portugal. Paellas are the restaurant's specialty. The marisco version, with shrimp, calamari, little neck clams, chourico, peas and cilantro on saffron rice, will satisfy those craving authenticity, while the spicy Louisiana recipe comprises shrimp, linguiça, roasted peppers, peas, cilantro and a spicy Cajun saffron rice. All the paellas are offered in half or whole portions. The wine list, featuring regional reds and whites, works well with the menu --- try one of the refreshingly light white wines with the seafood, and opt for a bolder red to enhance the spicier dishes.
