Eggs & Plants Restaurant Review:

Tucked into a big downtown building, it could be easy to miss this small shop, looking much like any typical workday lunch spot. But the menu features Iraqi fried eggplant sandwiches called sabich, Yemenite-Jewish breads named malawach and Persian omelets: all foods that make up lunches common on the streets of Tel Aviv, but are rarely seen in the U.S. The vegetarian menu reflects the Middle Eastern heritage of the owner, but the space is all Seattle. After ordering, diners can grab their mint lemonade or date smoothie and head down the hall to the seating area, which looks directly into a glass-blowing studio. While the Moroccan-style egg sandwiches would be enough to distinguish this place from the crowd of lunch cafés, the art-audience setting cements its specialness.
