El Tio Tex-Mex Grill Restaurant Review: El Tio’s Gainesville location buzzes with families looking for approachable Tex-Mex fare that even the youngest can enjoy. Taking a page from other family operations, this place excels with courteous service and customer accommodation. Don’t like chiles? Off the plate. A great way to start here is with an order or two of taquitos, corn tortillas stuffed with a meaty choice then deep-fried and passed with sour cream and guacamole. Also good: the fried plantains with sour cream. If your tastes run to the simpler combos, then stick with the fajitas (shrimp, chicken, steak, chorizo) or the grilled New York steak with rice, black beans and fried yucca. But if you like to explore, go for the very traditional and well-executed chiles rellenos, accompanied by frijoles refritos.
